Most athletes will agree when it comes show day, what separates the champions from the rest of the pack is a positive mental attitude. A champion mindset does not get built the day of the show. A champion mindset gets cultivated over the duration of the contest prep. Champion thinking is built on overcoming challenges and obstacles.
When nerves hit you at 2 weeks out, or the day of the show, or even on stage for that matter, it is already too late if you don’t have techniques to alter how you think on the spot.
Mental training is the equivalent of building your cognitive muscle. Mental training is the act of building mental muscles that get utilized throughout the process of an athlete’s contest prep.
The best time to create a mental training program is in the off season. The second best time is as soon as you realize that the way you think really does effect what happens in the gym, in the kitchen, and on stage.
